W9 Wednesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class 😎 Welcome to Week 9 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work 😊

1) Literacy (Writing)
Learning Objectives (LO): Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Let's practice writing simple words and sentences!

Have a look at the picture below:

What can you see on the farm?

What can you see in the picture? What do you see? What is happening?

Attempt to sound out and write down some things (words) you see in the picture.
If you can, start making and writing your sentences with "I can see..."

Don't forget Big letter (Capital letter), Finger Spacing, and Kung Fu Punch (Full Stop) at the end of each sentence!

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognize, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun 😉

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Today you will experiment with the ramps and toy cars you have at home to see which car travels the furthest distance. You can make marks to record then compare distances.

You can also try to adjust the height of the ramps by adding more blocks to raise the base exploring whether this change makes the cars travel further!

After experimenting on how far cars travel and which car travelled furthest, have a look at the video of how Ms. Yati measured the car travel distance by making the number line on the floor.

Can you measure how far your cars have travelled? How do we know?

Measuring Caterpillar Lengths Activity

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

We are going to measure the length of your rooms today.

1) Gather two pieces of A4 paper and bring one of your favorite shoes!
2) Draw around your shoe on two pieces of paper. You now have a shoe template.
3) Then, cut your footprints out.
4) Now, you are going to use the footprints to find out which is the longest room and which is the shortest room in the house.
5) Can you use the footprints to measure the length of the rooms in your house?

Before you measure, can you make a prediction of how many footprints long you think each room might be? Which room is the longest? Which room is the shortest? How do you know?

Please encourage our friends to use language related to length, such as short, shorter, shortest, long, longer, longest.

3) Finger Gym (Moving and Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

For finger gym activity today, you will be preparing and making a spring scale using recycled materials. Have a look at the video and follow through making your own spring scale!

We will be using it tomorrow to explore and measure weights of different objects 😊

Have fun!
