W5 Tuesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class ๐Ÿ˜Ž Welcome to Week 5 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ˜Š

1) Phonics Book (Literacy)
Learning Objectives (LO): Reading ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Tuesday is our day to work on Phonics Book!
Please take the time to complete one page per week and follow your own child's pace of learning.
Keep practicing reading and writing ๐Ÿ™‚

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognize, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

As we have started exploring shapes around us, let's learn about different kinds of 2D shapes this week. 2D shapes are shapes that are flat. You can put 2D shapes flat on a piece of paper.

Have a look at the video to see how many 2D shapes are around us!
Can you try to follow and make the shapes in the air?

Can you draw 2D shapes you have learned and make any creation you would like?
If you want, you can practice coloring these 2D shapes. Can you tell what 2D shapes you spot?

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

You may have noticed that there are a lot more 2D shapes other than circles, triangles, and squares.
That's right! Let's learn about different kinds of 2D shapes around us.

Did you learn some new shape names? What is one of your favorite 2D shapes? Why?
Now, it is time to spot and shape hunt different types of 2D shapes around you!

Can you keep track of how many times you spotted each 2D shapes?

Were you able to find shapes like oval, pentagon, hexagon, and rhombus at home?
Which shape did you see the most or least?

3) Topic (Transportation)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

Since we have explored many kinds of transporation on land and air last few weeks, we will look into waterborne transportation this week.

What are some transportation you can see or ride on the sea or river?
Have you ridden boats, ships, yachts, submarines or canoes before? Where did you go?
What did you see when you were on the vehicle?

Let's first read a book about boats before we make them ourselves!

Brilliant Boats by Tony Mitton & Ant Parker

Float Away

Today we would like you to make your own boat and see how it would float in water.

After making your boat, try blowing your boat on water and look how fast it can go around.
Be creative!

If you want a challenge, design your own boat that will hold the most number of coins or counters and stay afloat. You can play this game with your parents or siblings at home ๐Ÿ˜€

Have fun!

You will need:
Foil, toothpick and colored paper (sail)

If you would like to make sturdy boat with a plastic bottle, follow through how Ms.Anji made her own boat with propeller!

Send us a video or picture of your boat floating around.

We would love to see them! ๐Ÿ˜Š
