W9 Tuesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class πŸ˜Ž Welcome to Week 9 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work πŸ˜Š

1) Phonics Book (Literacy)
Learning Objectives (LO): Reading ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Tuesday is our day to work on Phonics Book!
Please take the time to complete one page per week and follow your own child's pace of learning.
Keep practicing reading and writing πŸ™‚

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognize, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun πŸ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Let's practice comparing length using different objects at home. Can you collect 5-10 objects at home? They can be pencils, crayons, erasers or even stuffed toys you have at home πŸ˜€

Can you now arrange them in the order of shortest to the tallest?
Which object is the shortest? Which is the tallest?

Can you now arrange them in the order of tallest to the shortest?

You can also compare how tall your family members are.

Who is the tallest in your family member? Who is the shortest?
Who is taller than you? Who is shorter than you? How do you know?

Ordering Worm Lengths Activity

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Let's measure the height of our favorite toys at home now. Look around the house and collect 3-5 toys you would like. Then, you will use either same sized interlocking cubes or Legos available at home to measure how tall your toys are.

Have a look at the video of how Ms. Yati measured the height of each stuffed toys at our school! 😊
Can you tell us how tall your toys are and put them in order?

3) Topic (Our Homes)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things occur, and talk about changes.

Imagine you are riding an airplane and looking down at your house from the sky. Can you try to draw a map of your own house? You can choose to draw the entire house or choose one room you would like to focus and draw!

Here are some samples of house maps below.
Have a look and have fun drawing your own house or room map 😊
