W9 Friday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class ๐Ÿ˜Ž Welcome to Week 9 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ˜Š

1) Key Ring Sight Words (Reading)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

It's Friday! Our time to review and practice our key ring sight words!
Are you ready?

Please find the right key ring numbers your child is working on below. Try to make up a sentence using the sight words if possible. Don't forget to check if your sentence makes sense!

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognize, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language to describe them.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

We are going to learn to use words to describe how much a container holds such as half full, empty, full, nearly full, nearly empty.

You will need some containers preferably same sized containers if you have at home. You will also need some water (if you have food coloring, you can mix some in the water!)

Have a look at the video of how your teachers used the vocabulary.
Can you also fill up a cup so that it is nearly empty, half full, nearly full and full?
Can you lave a cup empty? Can you order the cups from empty to full?
Can you also order the cups from full to empty?

Capacity Sorting Activity

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Now, we will find out which container would hold more water?
Prepare yourself different containers or bottles and predict which one would hold more water.

How can we find out which one would hold more or most water?
Have a look at the containers. What do you notice about them? How are they different?

Have a look how your teachers find out which container holds more water by using a same sized cup to count how many cups of water each container holds.

Can you also find out at home?
Try and carefully count how many cups of water each bottle holds! ๐Ÿ˜Š

3) Finger Gym (Moving and Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Let us finish this week's Maths by spending some time comparing lengths using different materials available at home! Have a look at the video of how Ms. Yati drew and stack up ice creams to compare which one has the highest number of ice creams and the least.

You can think of a different way to make up and create objects to compare lengths!
