W8 Tuesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class πŸ˜Ž Welcome to Week 8 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work πŸ˜Š

1) Phonics Book (Literacy)
Learning Objectives (LO): Reading ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Tuesday is our day to work on Phonics Book!
Please take the time to complete one page per week and follow your own child's pace of learning.
Keep practicing reading and writing πŸ™‚

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun πŸ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible - your child will have an individual login to access this.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Let's learn about even and odd numbers today! Have a look at the video of how Ms. Yati found out about even and odd numbers.

You can set up the challenge at your home too.
Test out whether a number is even or odd by using other household objects such as books or toys.

Take an even number of books and pair them up.
Next, choose an odd amount and see if they can be paired up and if there are any left over.

Do you think this is an odd or an even number?
If there is one piece left over, does this make the number odd or even?

Try to find and color if the ladybirds are with an even or odd number of spots 😌

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Let's try to make a chart after finding out odd and even numbers from 1-10.
Have a look at how Ms. MJ found out odd and even numbers.

You can also use stickers or draw counters on your own to see whether a number can pair up or not! Enjoy πŸ˜ƒ

3) Topic (Our Homes) - Speaking (Helicopter Stories)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Many of you have made amazing houses yesterday. Now, we would like you to practice your speaking skills by creating and telling us your own story about your house!

Before we start telling the story, let's plan it first.

What story would you like to make? Who (what characters) will be in your story?
What would happen in the beginning, middle and at the end of your story?

As usual, you can start your story from 'once upon a time...'
Use this Story Map if you would like to draw and plan your story before you speak 😊

Have a look at your friends' houses too! We will wait for your amazing stories!
