W8 Thursday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class πŸ˜Ž Welcome to Week 8 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work πŸ˜Š

1) Library Book (Reading & Speaking)
Learning Objectives (LO): Reading ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Spend some time listening to David Williams free audio stories for your library time! David Walliams currently uploads his audio books 11:00 am daily.

You can also use Oxford Owl to look for some audio books as well!

Oxford Owl Library

Amazon Audible provides free audio books for children at the moment for a month.
Enjoy browsing and listening to some stories at home πŸ˜‰

Some questions to ask your child while reading together:
Parents Reading Prompts

Let's read a story Missing Mittens by Stuart J. Murphy
to see what happens to the number of mittens 😊

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun πŸ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible - your child will have an individual login to access this.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Let's make a number chart for even and odd numbers to remind us what we have been learning!
Can you make two columns for even and odd numbers and list down the numbers accordingly?

You can sort them out from number 0-10 or even further to number 20.
Remember our rules for even and odd numbers!
Even numbers have pairs (friends) while odd numbers have one left out 😐

Have fun coloring by even and odd numbers too! πŸ˜ƒ

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Let's use Unifix cubes or Legos available at home to do this activity.

Prepare your cubes and make a stick of between 3 and 10 cubes.

Can you break your stick in half to make two towers of the same height? There must be the same number of cubes in each.

When you try to make two towers, they sometimes end up with an odd one out. These are the odd numbers. Some numbers can be used to make ‘even' towers, those that are the same height. These are called the even numbers.

Have a look at the video of how your teachers did this activity!

Challenge: Will 15 cubes make even towers?  What is the biggest odd number less than 20?

3) Arts and Crafts (Moving and Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Let's do some arts and crafts activity to show odd and even numbers! You can come up with your own ideas to show even and dd numbers πŸ˜‰ Do you want to make flowers, monsters, trains, etc.? How many flower petals, monster teeth, and train wheels will they have?

Have a look at how Ms. Kris made her odd and even number of flower petals! Enjoy πŸ˜€
