W8 Monday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class ๐Ÿ˜Ž Welcome to Week 8 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ˜Š

1) Home Readers (Reading)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

Children are expected to read daily if possible but we will follow our usual homework schedule of Home Readers (Mondays/Wednesdays). Children to read to their parents/guardians, stuffed animals or pets. Please visit Oxford Owl for free eBooks that link to your child's book band. You can create a free account.

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible - your child will have an individual login to access this.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

We have been practicing counting from 1-20 and many of us can easily count up to 20! Now why don't we have some fun with our numbers? Let us practice skip counting!

Listen to the Counting by 2s song and sing along ๐Ÿ˜Š
You can use your finger to point and skip count numbers on the number line.

How far can you count in 2s? Have fun!

Odd and Even Number Lines

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

We will practice clever counting using pairs of socks at home. You can also use other objects and counters available at home such as shoes, cubes, eyes on soft toys, etc.

We know that a pair of socks comes in two because we have two feet. Shall we try to skip count in 2s to see how many socks we have?

Try to place the socks, objects or counters in pairs. Can you do clever counting?
Practice skip counting by 2s! If a number has a pair and no leftover, it is an even number.

3) Topic (Our Homes)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children use what they have learnt about media and materials in original ways, thinking about uses and purposes. They represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings through design and technology, art, music, dance, role play and stories.

Last week, we spent some time drawing exterior part of your own house. Now, we would like you to spend some time building your own house. It can either be built in 2D or 3D. It's your choice.

In order to build a house, what are the things that we need? Can you think of what kind of materials and important objects such as doors, windows, etc. we need in order to construct a house?

What materials should we use to make our house strong? Enjoy constructing your house ๐Ÿ˜€
