W6 Wednesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class ๐Ÿ˜Ž Welcome to Week 6 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work ๐Ÿ˜Š

1) Literacy (Writing)
Learning Objectives (LO): Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Let's practice writing simple words and sentences!

Have a look at the picture below:

What can you see in the supermarket?

What can you see in the picture? What do you see? What is happening?

Attempt to sound out and write down some things (words) you see in the picture.
If you can, start making and writing your sentences with "I can see..."

Don't forget Big letter (Capital letter), Finger Spacing, and Kung Fu Punch (Full Stop) at the end of each sentence!

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.
Don't forget that learning is fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

Please download and work on Numbots daily if possible - your child will have an individual login to access this.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Today we will be learning about halving. When there is a half of an object, it is one of two equal parts that together make up a whole part. Halving is the opposite of doubling. We divide them into two equal parts. Have a look at the video and practice halving different shapes!

You can use different printout objects below to cut them into half! Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

We will practice halving using ladybirds too! Can you count how many dots a ladybird has and draw half the number of dots on the ladybird? Just remember we need to divide into two equal parts. Half of 10 is 5!

3) Finger Gym (Moving and Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children show good control and coordination in large and small movements. They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

Gather some fruits or cookies (or even pizza!) at your house. Can you try to cut and halve your foods at home? How shall we divide into two equal parts? After halving your foods, try to share them equally with your parents or siblings ๐Ÿ˜Š What do you need to do to share equally?

Challenge: If you can try to make a division sentence, try it out! If too challenging, it is alright! ๐Ÿ˜‰
