W4 Friday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class πŸ˜Ž Welcome to Week 4 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work πŸ˜Š

1) Key Ring Sight Words (Reading)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG - Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.

It's Friday! Our time to review and practice our key ring sight words!

Please find the right key ring numbers your child is working on below. Try to make up a sentence using the sight words if possible. Don't forget to check if your sentence makes sense!

2) Mathematics (SSM)
Learning Objectives (LO): 
ELChildren use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time anmoney to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems
They recognize, create and describpatterns. They explore characteristics of everyday  objects and shapes 
and use mathematical language to describe them.

There are two different types of Maths activities. Please feel free to move from one star challenge to another depending on your mastery remembering what works best for you.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Watermelon Seed Picking

Today we are going to pick out and take away seeds from a watermelon into placing it in a bowl!
Then, we will see how many are left in the watermelon.

All you have to do is draw a watermelon
(you can use real watermelon if you have at home πŸ˜€) and a bowl,
and cut out 10 watermelon seeds.

Play around to see how many are left!

You will need:
Paper, scissors and colouring equipment


1) Draw watermelon and a bowl!
2) Cut out 10 water melon seeds.

3) How many water melon seeds are there?
4) How many do you want to take away?

There were five seeds in the watermelon and two were picked out into the bowl, 
how many seeds are left in the watermelon?

5-2=3

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Playdough Mash

Today we would like you to play with some playdough to practice your subtraction. 
You can do so by making your own playdough or you can use the ones you already have! 
Roll your playdough, mash the correct number and count how many that are left.

You will need:
Playdough, paper and writing equipment

3) Arts and Crafts (Moving & Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG—Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.
They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils for writing.

For today’s activity you will be writing your own name on the name train.
How many letters are in your name?
How many carts do you need to cut down and add them to your train?

Write each letter of your name on each of the train carts. Choo choo!
