W2 Wednesday Learning Blog

Good morning Reception Class 😎 Welcome to Week 2 Virtual School!

There are 3 different learning areas for you to work on every day.
Try to follow the instructions carefully and complete the tasks according to your learning pace!

Please be prepared to share some of your work during the end of the day Zoom meeting at 11:30 am with your teachers. Don't forget to upload at least one task on Tapestry for teachers to see how hard you've been working daily! Keep up the good work 😊

1) Literacy (Writing)
Learning Objectives (LO): Writing ELG - Children use their phonic knowledge to write words in ways which match their spoken sounds. They also write some irregular common words. They write simple sentences which can be read by themselves and others. Some words are spelt correctly and others are phonetically plausible.

Let's practice writing simple words and sentences!

Have a look at the picture below:
What can you see in the home?

What can you see in the home picture below? What do you see?
You can look around your own house as well!

Attempt to sound out and write down some things (words) you see in the photo or at your house.
If you can, start making and writing your sentences with "I can see..."

Don't forget Big letter (Capital letter), Finger Spacing, and Kung Fu Punch (Full Stop) at the end of each sentence!

2) Mathematics (Numbers)
Learning Objectives (LO): Add 1,2 or 3 to any number to 20 by counting on.
40-60+ Counts objects to 10, and beginning to count beyond 10. Counts actions or objects which cannot be moved. ELG - Children count reliably with numbers from one to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract two single-digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer.

⭐ - 1 Star Challenge:

Let's continue with our counting practice!

1) Lay your number cards with numbers on in a line 1 to 20.
2) Ask your child to turn around or else blindfold them!
3) Swap two numbers, e.g. the 4 and the 14.
4) Ask the child to count along the line and to tell you when they reach a number which is in the wrong place.
5) Then they continue counting until they reach another mis-placed number.
6) Can they then say which two numbers have been swapped?
7) Repeat this, three times. They can do it for you too.

Challenge:
o Time them! How quickly can they identify the mis-placed numbers?

⭐⭐ - 2 Star Challenge:

Time to use your car park that you made on Monday!
Let's practice adding 1,2, or 3 to any number to 20 by counting on again.

Have a look at how Ms. Anji parked number of cars in the parking lot. Use your car park to follow writing addition number sentences together! Repeat by choosing different numbers on your own.

Can I see your addition number sentences? How many cars were you able to park altogether? 😀

3) Arts and Crafts (Moving and Handling)
Learning Objectives (LO): ELG—Children show good control and co-ordination in large and small movements.

They move confidently in a range of ways, safely negotiating space. They handle equipment and tools effectively, including pencils  for writing.

Wheel Wonder

Today we would like you to imagine yourself driving a car or any transportation with a steering wheel. You can do so by coloring and decorating your paper plate or cardboard steering wheel at home!

You will need:
Circle cut out cardboard or paper plate and coloring equipment

Can you draw a circle by yourself and try to cut the shape out using scissors with the help of an adult?

Send us a video of you zooming and honking around your house but make sure to be careful of any pedestrians! What sound does it make when you honk? Have fun! 😊
